The Global Coherence Monitoring System

The GCMS is a global network of sensitive magnetic field detectors that monitor fluctuations in the Earth’s geomagnetic fields and resonances in the ionosphere.

System Sensor Site Map

The Global Coherence Monitoring System has planned 12 sensor sites strategically placed around the world.

The blue icons are sensor sites that have been installed and are gathering data.

The red icons are places that we need to install a sensor site.

The first prototype of the Global Coherence Monitoring System was built in 2008, named Maggie. After testing the Sensor Site it was decided that it would be best to put the wires in tubing underground to protect them against weather.

GCMS Installation

South Africa

The Global Coherence Monitoring System was installed in the KwaZulu Natal province, South Africa in June 2015. This informative video shows, from start to finish, the installation of the sensor.
